"Shine" along with "A Beautiful Mind" did more to educate me about emotional health challenges, than any book I have ever read, or class I have attended. I highly recommend both of these films for those who have not experienced emotional health challenges. They will not only increase your empathy or compassion, but your respect and even awe for those fighting this battle. I love writers and directors who create films with honesty about the struggle, but also hope for victory. These two films fulfill both of these important criteria for inspiration.
The Harvard Innovation Lab is "a collaboration and education space launched in 2011 to help develop student's interest in entrepreneurship and innovation." Fast Company published an article on the lab entitled "7 Essential Lessons From The Harvard Innovation Lab." Reading the story about the lab my mind couldn't help but think about the traditional classroom. Why can't every classroom develop a culture similar to the lab? Might many of our educational challenges end if we overhauled the classroom? I think so...because in the 21st century every classroom should become an innovation lab.
There is a post I have written about my dream social stories app, which describes what I believe is an essential tool for the development and quality of life of those with disabilities. This article connects my personal journey with inclusion, the history of social stories, and what has evolved into my vision of the dream social stories app. Digital Scribbler will produce this app unless someone better beats us to it, in which case we will be thrilled this magical tool is available to the public.
The wolverine, sometimes referred to as the mountain devil, is a one-of-a-kind creature, earning respect and admiration from those who study it. Males weigh less than 40 pounds, but are extremely fierce, often fight well above their weight, and have been known to kill an adult bull moose. This quote from Jim Robbins New York Times story on the plight of the Wolverine is enlightening. He writes in detail and with passion about the human impact on the life of the Wolverine. The idea climate change could endanger the life of the Wolverine is disturbing, but of even greater concern is how the desire for human convenience could make the Wolverine collateral damage from human indulgence. This great article will make you think about the importance of protecting Wildlife from human impact on the environment. This is a particularly big deal if you are Michigan Wolverines fan! Save the Wolverines! Go Blue! Read the entire New York Times Story here_.
From Crisis to Turning PointDavid Brooks thinks different. What some of his critics haven't figured out is he writes to make us think and question not purchase newspapers. His column titled "The Middle Age Surge" is worth deep focus. He calls upon the reader to question their assumptions about mid-life being a crisis, and instead see it as a turning point. Anyone in the middle of life would benefit from reading this article which you can find here.
